What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease.  In order to become a periodontist, a dentist must complete three additional years of training in an accredited periodontal program.  Dr. Berger completed his training at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. Periodontists are also called upon to place dental implants for the patients of general dentists.  With this team approach, a specialist who deals with soft and hard tissues on a regular basis, works with your general dentist in order to achieve the best possible result for you. A periodontist should be an active member of the American Academy of Periodontolgy.
